    Fighting Off Infections

Your only defense against infections is your immune system. If your character’s immunity is compromised, you will most likely die to any infection.

    Limb Infections:

Your body’s defense starts at the limb. When a limb is infected, an immune response builds up. The speed at which the immune response increases depends on your character’s Immunity Immunity stat. An immunity level of greater than 50% is required to fight off infections.

Beating an infection requires that the immune response surpasses the speed of the infection. When the immune response is high enough, the infection will begin to slow down and eventually clear up. Limb infections vary from moderate to severe. Some cases may not require antibiotics, but most will.

    Blood Infections / Bacteremia:

If a limb infection reaches a point where it enters the blood, your body will have a systemic response to the infection with a similar system mentioned above, albeit with more risk of developing Sepsis Sepsis or other diseases, and is not limb specific.

Blood infections may be caused by multiple strains, though some strains may contribute more to bacteremia than others. Use a Sampler tool Sampler tool with no sample to see which strains are in the blood. Typically, different strains will compete with each other for resources, causing a previously dominant strain to contribute less to the blood infection.

    Sepsis:

Unlike vanilla Neurotrauma, sepsis cannot be treated with antibiotics. Sepsis is a product of existing limb or blood infections (or other diseases), so treating sepsis means having to deal with the underlying infection. See above for dealing with underlying causes. Sepsis can be managed with iv fluids, vasopressors, and corticosteroids.
