Pseudomonas Infection

Description:

Caused by gram-negative bacteria from the genus pseudomonas. These germs are naturally resistant to many different antibiotics, making it difficult to treat. Pseudomonas infections are rare (1 in 17 cases).

Pus is usually green in presentation.

Caused By:

• Infected wounds that develop into a limb infection

Effects:

• Blood infection (>50%)
• Inflammation (>0%)
• Purulent drainage (>25% with wound)
• Abscess (>25% without wound)
• Pneumonia (Blood infection >0%)

Treatments:

Susceptible to:

• Gentamicin (95% effective)
• Ceftazidime (87.5% effective)
• Primaxin (80% effective)
